Following the installation of solar panels at the production sites in Alsfeld and Lauterbach in 2023 and 2024, another photovoltaic system is now in operation at the Hungarian site in Kecskemét, reports the STI Group in a press release. The investment of around 2 million euros in the 2.14 MWp (megawatt peak) system comprises approximately 5,000 solar modules. Since August, the Hungarian site of the group, one of the largest folding carton producers in Eastern Europe, has been covering a large part of its electricity needs with solar power generated in-house.

The solar power system is in line with the STI Group's long-term strategic goals and makes a positive contribution to its carbon footprint. ‘Sustainability and innovation have always been key issues for us,’ explains Jakob Rinninger, CEO of the STI Group. ‘This enables us to effectively support our customers in achieving their climate protection goals.’

Since 2023, the group has been a member of the Sciences Base Target Initiative (SBTi) and is committed to reducing CO2 emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. In 2025, the calculation of the carbon footprint and the sustainability targets set were validated by the SBTi and confirmed as compliant with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG). The STI Group recently received recognition for its performance from the independent rating platform EcoVadis and was awarded platinum status for the second time in a row. According to its own statements, the STI Group is currently the only medium-sized German packaging company to hold such an award at group level and thus across all its branches and production plants.
