The Vafo Group, a European manufacturer of super-premium pet food, has announced the acquisition of Azan, one of Poland's largest distributors and a long-standing partner. This strategic move is intended to strengthen Vafo's presence in one of the most important markets in Central and Eastern Europe, open up new growth opportunities, and enable more direct contact with end customers.

According to a press release, the acquisition is the result of almost thirty years of cooperation and a shared business philosophy between the two companies. It is based on the shared goal of driving further growth in the increasingly connected and unified markets of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Within the Vafo Group, Azan will continue to expand its expertise in sales and customer service. At the same time, the acquisition creates scope for the more efficient use of synergies in logistics, finance, and the exchange of best practices within the group.

“I am delighted to welcome Azan to the Vafo family. The company has contributed significantly to our success in the Polish market, which has always felt like home to us. We have had a factory there for five years now, and I am convinced that more will follow,“ says Pavel Bouška, CEO of the Vafo Group, which is reportedly one of the five largest pet food manufacturers in Europe. In 2024, the group achieved a turnover of around 605 million euros.

Azan was founded in 1997 by siblings Agnieszka Donicz and Krzysztof Furdal. The name is derived from “A to Z Animals“. What began as a small family business has developed into a distribution company that now supplies almost 7,000 customers in specialist shops, veterinary practices and modern retail outlets, according to the company. In addition to distribution, Azan develops its own e-commerce platforms and the Azanki snack brand. Currently employing more than 80 people, the company will now further expand its professional skills and regional expertise as part of the Vafo Group. The two companies have been partners since 2000, when Azan became one of Vafo's first international partners.
