Research from the PDSA Animal Wellbeing (PAW) Report - the largest and most comprehensive report into the UK's pets - has shown that 10 years of Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) has had a positive impact on the lives and welfare of pet rabbits in the UK.
The report's key findings include the fact that fewer rabbits are fed muesli as one of their main food types - down from 49 per cent (2011) to 18 per cent. Fewer rabbits are being fed less than the recommended amount of hay or grass - down from 42 per cent (2011) to 21 per cent. Furthermore, a significant decrease has been reported in the number of rabbits living alone - from 67 per cent (2011) to 42 per cent.
The report's findings also indicate that rabbits are spending less time in their hutches: an average of 10.73 hours compared to 13.18 hours in 2017, over a 24-hour period.
