Sales by the pet food business decreased due to the continuing harsh market environment and the poor performance of cat food products in general

The Japanese Nisshin Seifun Group has reported consolidated financial results. Net sales for the first six months of the fiscal year ending March 2011 amounted to ¥ 209 161 million, or a 7.8 per cent decrease from the same period of the previous fiscal year. Profits increased, mainly due to an increase in shipments by the processed food, yeast and biotechnology businesses, as well as the recovery of earnings in the mesh cloth business.Sales by the pet food business at the company Nisshin Petfood Inc. decreased from the same period in the previous year due to the continuing harsh market environment and the poor performance of cat food products, although the JP-Style premium pet food line performed well. In the pet food business, the company will continue to expand its premium food business with a focus on safety, reliability and health by leveraging its advantages as a domestic manufacturer. Nisshin Petfood Inc. provides a product line-up that meets a wide variety of needs. The line includes the premium brands “JP-Style”, “Inu-No-Shiawase (Doggie Happiness)” for dogs, “Kaiseki” and “Carat” for cats, and “Lovely” for small animals.
