Online sales of pet food rose strongly in March

Online sales of pet food are steadily increasing in the USA. Last year they reached a turnover of 5.8 bn dollars, out of a total market of 36 bn dollars in the USA. As people stayed at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, e-commerce pet food sales more than tripled between January and March compared with the previous year.

Sales in January were already 21 per cent higher than in the previous year. In March, however, sales of pet food rose by as much as 77 per cent compared with last March, while stationary retailers sold around 26 per cent more in the same month. Dry pet food sales showed the strongest growth, up 84 per cent from the same month last year.

These figures were reported by Nielsen Global Connect.
