Oase occupies a market-leading position in the garden pond technology segment in Europe. What objectives are you pursuing in the aquarium segment?

Aquariums are our strongest growth market. More and more people are discovering the positive, tranquil atmosphere that aquariums create in an attractive home. With our range of aquariums, we offer that feeling of the proverbial oasis even indoors; the fascination for water as a design element with its calming effect, and the ideal technology for being able to integrate this feeling simply and permanently into any living space. The demands made on an aquarium are accordingly very individual. As a branded manufacturer boasting experience, competence and the highest quality standards, we want to satisfy these different requirements and set the benchmark in innovation and design.

How will your company consolidate its market position in the aquarium segment in the next few years?

Our classic aquarium product lines, HighLine and StyleLine, create a balance between premium products and the compact class. And in biOrb we offer a unique product with intelligent design for fans of décor and lifestyle as well as those new to the hobby. Our assortment is constantly being expanded by new, innovative products geared to the requirements of our customers. This includes additions to the smart home lines such as Easy Aquarium Control (EAC), which makes it easy to control the lighting, with individual light and colour settings. It is even possible to simulate realistic weather and flow conditions, such as in the Amazon, by app on a tablet or smartphone.

In mid-October you opened your first biOrb shop in an existing aquatics store in the Netherlands. How many such shop-in-shops are there now in Europe?

The so-called pop-up stores follow a road-show concept. They are set up for a limited time and then move on. At the moment there is a biOrb pop-up store in Japan. This is complemented by cooperative initiatives with so-called concept stores, such as the "Lieblings..." in Fulda. Here biOrb is in good company alongside other designer brands, because as well as functioning as an aquarium, biOrb is primarily a design component in interior design. Moreover, the first flagship store now exists in the Netherlands - thus a genuine, pure biOrb store, located in Fijnaart, close to the Belgian border.
