When the China International Pet Show (CIPS) opens its doors from 6 to 9 November in the Beijing Exhibition Center in Beijing, the organisers – the China Great Wall Exhibition Company and Nürnberg Global Fairs – are expecting a record attendance. For the first time, the full directory of exhibitors at Asia’s biggest pet trade show is available online in advance of the event. Exhibitors are organised into categories for greater transparency: pet products, aquarium products, live pets and “others”. Owing to the considerable demand, the organisers have extended the space available, with temporary accommodation being erected outside the exhibition halls. Hendrik Engelking, project manager for Nürnberg Global Fairs, is anticipating an exhibition area of 30 000 m² in all: “Our exhibitors offer buyers from Europe and the USA an overview of what’s on offer in the Chinese pet and aquatics sector. Only the CIPS provides such a comprehensive overview – it is not without reason that we speak of China’s most important trading platform for the pet product market.” Many national and international trade visitors are taking the opportunity even now to register on the organisers’ website for the show. “It’s an indication of the ever-growing significance of the Chinese pet product industry for the global market,” says Hendrik Engelking.
Ranges for all pets
The trade show traditionally focuses on ranges for dogs and cats as well as for rodents and rabbits. Trade visitors with an interest in aquatics will not be disappointed, though, stress the organisers, drawing on support from government circles: the China Fisheries Association is part of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and is a non-profit organisation that supports the government in supervision and control of the fishing industry. Another body lending its support at the CIPS is the China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association (CIQA) – a part of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China. The aquarium associations from Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively are also backing the biggest pet fair in Asia.
The CIPS can look back on an impressive success story. Since 1997, the number of exhibitors has grown continuously, more than doubling in the period from 2002 to 2007.
