“Our mission is to create an inspiring and unique trade show venue for national and international pet lifestyle exhibitors and buyers,” Annemarie Aldrich of the Pet Fashion Week states. The following product categories are represented: fashion, jewellery and accessories, collars and leashes, toys, foods and treats, bedding, fragrances, grooming products, health products and speciality items. In an effort to foster design and innovation, Pet Fashion Week is not only a trade show but also a designer platform. The idea is to provide a high-profile environment in which up and coming designers are presented alongside established ones in front of a high concentration of international media and buyers.New York’s Metropolitan Pavilion hosted the celebration of the human-canine bond. This unique event combined the world’s highest-end pet lifestyle trade show with demi-couture runway shows, innovative design awards and the revolutionary “Isle of Dogs Creative Styling Showcase”. The event attracted over 2 500 buyers, eager to see the latest pet industry trends that were presented by more than 150 exhibitors. As the world’s most progressive design platform, Pet Fashion Week featured the following:
The PFW Fashion Kick-off Party sponsored by Legally Blonde. The musical started off the weekend mixing fashion with fundraising to benefit the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. Over 300 guests danced the night away, most of them dressed in pink. Elle Woods, the main cast member of the musical, attended with Bruiser and hosted part of the night.
The PFW runway shows featured the demi-couture lines of 13 international pet apparel and accessory designers. Under the direction of famed human apparel designer Jonathan Peters, the show presented was nothing short of spectacular and treated the audience to one couture piece from each designer.
The Media Choice Award sponsored by Crystallized. Using Swarovski elements, designers were asked to create designs within five different trend visions. The winner, chosen by the media, was Manfred of Sweden.
The PFW Lifestyle Innovation Award sponsored by Legally Blonde. The musical featured six pet bedding designers that competed for a promotional award. The winner of the award: the Turkish design company Gino the Dog by Gaia and Gino.
