Tetra goes to Triton equity fund
The American pharmaceutical group Pfizer is to sell Tetra for $ 238.5 mio to “Triton Fund“, an independent private European equity fund based in Germany. Pfizer expects the sale to be completed this year. It is not yet known what effect the change of ownership will have on Tetra.
Tetra sold to Triton for $ 238.5 mio.
The US company announced its intention to seek strategic options for Tetra as long ago as March, because the aquatics company did not fit in with Pfizer’s strategic core business. Months of speculation then followed regarding the future of the company. Masterfoods and Nestlé were mentioned as potential buyers of Tetra, but refuted this idea at an early stage.
Tetra was founded over 50 years ago and taken over in 1974 by Warner-Lambert. It became a division of Pfizer in June 2000 when the latter took over Warner Lambert. Tetra made profits of $ 181 mio worldwide in 2001.
