Nestlé Purina has officially opened a new pet food factory in Ohio, USA. The company invested more than 550 million US dollars in constructing the Batavia plant, located around 50 kilometres east of Cincinnati. This is the first Purina factory to be built from scratch since 1975 and Nestlé's largest investment in a production facility to date, according to a press release from the company.

Brands such as Purina Pro Plan, Purina One and Dog Chow are already being produced at the site. The factory currently employs more than 430 people. Once operating at full capacity, this figure is set to grow to over 500.

The 121,000-square-metre production facility is Purina’s 24th factory in the US. It is expected to supply pet food to around eight million pets annually whilst providing greater flexibility within the production network.
