Purina Friskies announced it would donate 1,000 cat meals and cash for every point scored by the University of Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team through the rest of the season. Friskies had been cheering on the Wildcats during their first trip to the national semifinals in 25 years.
The meals and money will go to the care and feeding programmes of the Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter & Sanctuary. So, although the Wildcats lost 91-73 to the Michigan Wolverines in their final game of the season, the 73 points they scored mean Friskies will donate 73,000 meals to cats in need.
The Hermitage is Arizona’s only accredited cat sanctuary and the states’ oldest no-kill, cage-free cat shelter. Home to more than 200 cats in its 9,000-square-foot facility at any given time, the Hermitage has been keeping Tucson's at-risk cats and kittens safe, fed, and loved since 1965, providing round-the-clock care for cats awaiting their forever homes.
