ADM has expanded its Priome postbiotics range with a new addition targeting joint health in pets. According to a press release, Priome Joint Health, based on heat-treated Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus NCIMB 30446, is designed to support joint function, cartilage health, collagen production, muscle maintenance, gut barrier function, and weight management.
The launch draws on growing scientific interest in the gut-joint axis ‒ the relationship between gut microbiome balance and joint health, the release states. An imbalanced microbiome can increase intestinal permeability, allowing microbial compounds to enter systemic circulation and potentially trigger physiological responses linked to joint deterioration. A canine study found measurable differences in gut microbial composition between healthy dogs and those diagnosed with hip or elbow arthritis, with arthritic animals showing reduced bacterial diversity ‒ supporting the existence of a microbiome-joint connection in dogs specifically.
As postbiotics consist of inanimate microorganisms, their efficacy does not depend on maintaining cell viability, making them stable throughout manufacturing. ADM offers Priome Joint Health in a wide range of formats, including soft chews, baked treats, extruded chews, dry kibble, wet food, and liquids.
