Kaspar Horst, a pioneer in the aquatics field, passed away on 21 June at the age of 85. According to Wikipedia, Horst's achievements include the development in the 1960s of a synthetic nutrient source supplying aquarium plants not only with iron but also with other nutrients and trace elements. His method of gaseous carbon dioxide fertilization in water was patented. Kaspar Horst was the managing director of Dupla Aquaristik for many years and was known for his numerous research expeditions to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo and Australia.
