Since the middle of March, the Fressnapf store in Düsseldorf-Lohausen has been washing, drying and trimming dogs following the opening of a Fellini salon in the store entrance by young dog groomer Andrea Rudolf. Fressnapf attempted to introduce this additional service some years ago, but has only recently looked again at offering the option.

The Fellini model

Under this second initiative, the dog salons are run by franchise partners and also dog stylists employed by the company. In the attractively designed salons extending over approx. 30 m2, specialised all-round feel-good packages are offered for dogs at different price levels. The packages vary depending on the Fellini dog stylist concerned.
In Düsseldorf-Lohausen, a "Quick Groom" package providing a speedy interim spruce-up for long-haired breeds is offered alongside premium coat care tailored fully to the dog's individual requirements or the "Wash & Fluff Dry" - washing and drying for active dogs and those undergoing coat changes. All Fellini dog stylists are individually tutored and tested in the feel-good packages on offer by Anja Reiteritsch, proprietor of a dog trimming school in Trittau.
A string of salon openings are scheduled in the next few months. A Fellini salon is to be established in the Fressnapf store in Düsseldorf-Reisholz as well as in Kassel and in the Fressnapf XXL in Krefeld. Two openings are also in the pipeline in Berlin. The number of Fellini grooming salons in Germany is expected to rise to seven by the end of the year.

Veterinary practices

Fressnapf has also opted for a franchise model for its veterinary practices. Under its previous concept the chain provided its own vets. Now it is favouring self-employed veterinarians, who are expected to become partners of Fressnapf. René Reinhold, managing director of the Activet veterinary practices, has five locations in mind by the end of 2017. The Activet name is being retained for the time being, but is expected to be changed for the overall corporate image. The veterinary practices are likely to be compact, covering an area of around 130 m2. The first location, a former Activet practice, is currently being trialled in Krefeld.
