It all started in 1992, when Miria Binini opened a pet shop in Reggio Emilia named EAT (Exotic Aquarium Tropical) Caraibi, offering a wide range of products for all types of pets. However, aquariums (both marine and fresh water aquariums) and fish have always been the focal point, and in 2001, she decided to concentrate exclusively on aquariums and fish.
In 2008, she moved to bigger premises of 100 m2 and named the store Acquari Caraibi. She took over an existing unit and renovated it to turn fishkeeping into a real passion and a hobby accessible to everyone. Since 2003 she has collaborated with experts such as biologists, vets and brand promoters to attract more and more people to the hobby and to spread awareness of it.
Fish and plants
At the entrance, near the shop window, live turtles are displayed, along with decorative products and other consumables people find attractive, while on the right, the customer finds a wide choice of aquariums of all types and sizes. In a small room at the end of the shop, a wide range of live fish and plants is displayed.
"Our assortment comprises a wide range of fishkeeping products, as our aim is to give our customers the chance to choose whatever they prefer, but to provide them with the right suggestion to make the aquarium experience a successful one," Miria Binini states. The main aquarium brands are Newa and Juwel, with top selling brands Giesemann, Aquaristica and Eheim. When it comes to food, the shop offers the Dupla, Tropical and Aquaristica brands, while the accessories range mainly comprises products from Arcadia, Aquaristica, Giesemann and Newa. The Kent brand is the primary source of supplementary products, together with Unica and Aquaristica.
"Live fish and plants account for around 50 per cent of our overall sales, supplementary products and food account for around 30 per cent and technical products and aquariums make up 10 per cent," Miria Binini continues. Bio conditioning products and bacteria from Aquaristica are the top-selling products apart from live plants and animals, along with branded food from Dupla and Tropical. "We pay great attention to water characteristics and compatibility in terms of species and sizes of fish," Miria Binini concludes.
