An aquarium doesn’t always have to be rectangular, as demonstrated impressively by the Italian company Curvet at Glee in Birmingham. Its futuristic aquarium tanks featuring multiple curves met with a great response from visitors to the exhibition

Many retailers visiting the Curvet stand were also enthusiastic about the inventiveness of the company’s products. And they weren’t the only ones: Curvet even took first prize at Glee for the greatest innovation in the aquatics segment with its extraordinary “Ippocampo” aquarium design. Based in Bottega de Colbordolo, Curvet has been active in the glasswork industry since 1976. The ability to work bent glass in entirely different ways as well as in different sizes and thicknesses makes the company an important supplier to producers in the construction industry as well as those in the sectors of refrigeration and household appliances, and Curvet’s large portfolio of clients includes well-known companies such as Duscholux, Roca, Loewe Opte and AEG. Panoramic lifts, revolving doors, refrigerated counters and television sets the world over testify to the creativity of the Italian firm.
Curvet received first prize for innovation in the aquatics sector at Glee for its “Ippocampo” aquarium model.
Curvet’s various product lines now include aquariums. The company is offering the specialist retail trade completely new, aesthetic aquarium collections of bent crystal glass under the brand name “Think tank”. “Thanks to the soft, twisted lines of this glass, the visual effect of an aquarium is greatly enhanced, producing amazing effects,” explains sales manager Roberto Vagnini. A special, patented treatment system enables Curvet to cut the time required for cleaning and maintenance of the tank by up to 90 per cent. The special way of treating the glass also makes the surface of the aquarium more scratch-resistant, according to the company.
The company is able to work bent glass in a wide variety of ways.
Over the many years that it has been in business, Curvet has steadily expanded its production facilities and upgraded them continuously to the latest level. Due to the variety of sectors in which it is engaged, the company has extensive know-how that should also benefit customers in the aquatics segment. Computer-controlled cutting and polishing systems guarantee absolute precision and offer infinite possibilities for shaping the glass. The horizontal glass bending and tempering machines ensure the optimum optical quality, as no suspension systems or bending tools are required.
