The International Grooming Society (IGS) has launched its Animal Welfare Guidelines for Grooming Events, unveiled on 4 July, a framework aimed at raising welfare standards at grooming competitions, seminars, workshops, brand demonstrations and other professional events involving live animals.
As grooming becomes a more visible part of the wider companion-animal sector, the IGS argues that clear welfare expectations are needed to protect animals, support professionals and build public trust. The guidelines set out practical steps for event teams before, during and after activities with animals, built around principles such as reducing unnecessary stress and risk, calm and respectful handling, and better communication between organisers, brands and educators. ‘The future of the grooming industry depends not only on technical excellence, but also on trust, transparency and responsibility,' an IGS representative said.
The Society is encouraging brands, organisers and industry partners to adopt the guidelines and support their implementation. Further information is available at internationalgroomingsociety.org.
