The 10th annual Pet Anxiety Awareness Month (PAAW) is running until the end of June, with programming extended through 4 July to cover the peak fireworks season. The US awareness initiative, founded by pet care expert Kristen Levine, focuses on fear, anxiety and stress (FAS) in companion animals and brings together veterinarians, behaviourists and pet care brands.
FAS conditions are among the most common behavioural concerns in companion animals, with studies suggesting that up to 50% of dogs may experience noise-related fear or anxiety. Early signs are often subtle and can go unrecognised, delaying intervention; left unaddressed, the conditions can affect pet welfare, strain the human-animal bond and increase the risk of relinquishment.
For 2026, the campaign is expanding its reach through a new partnership with DogTV, distributing expert-led video content across digital, streaming and broadcast platforms. The programming pairs pet parent stories with veterinary and behaviourist guidance, with a focus on noise phobia and other triggers ahead of the July holiday. The campaign also emphasises the veterinarian's role in diagnosing and managing FAS, spanning behaviour modification, supplements, calming products and prescription solutions.
PAAW 2026 is supported by organisations across the animal health and pet care sector, including the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, Fear Free and Ease Pet Vet. Presenting sponsor is Zoetis with its behaviour brands Sileo and Bonqat. Content sponsors include Reconcile (PRN Pharmacal), Calmer Canine (Assisi Animal Health), SIGNS Labs, ChuckIt! (Petmate), Atomic Bubbles and Fresh Patch.
