ADM, a leading global provider of innovative natural solutions, has announced the publication of a new study on “Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CECT 9161“ in its heat-treated postbiotic form (Priome Oral Care). The study showed that Priome Oral Care Postbiotic promotes a healthy oral microbiome and helps reduce plaque formation, thereby supporting oral health in adult dogs.
The study involved 60 healthy adult dogs. Following dental cleaning, the dogs were divided into three groups and fed dry food containing either a placebo, a low dose of Priome Oral Care, or a high dose daily for 57 days. Throughout the study, the researchers examined dental plaque, gum health, bad breath and tartar at regular intervals and performed an in-depth analysis of the oral microbiome.
The most important findings of the study are as follows:
- Dogs that received the high dose showed a significant 10 per cent reduction in plaque formation between days 29 and 57.
- Compared to the placebo group, a general trend towards reduced plaque formation was observed in the low-dose group.
- Microbiome analysis showed that the postbiotic can support overall oral health.
“This scientific publication is the result of many years of research and development involving multiple ADM teams, sites, and countries. It describes the entire process of strain identification, preclinical characterisation, and clinical substantiation. It also adds to the growing body of scientific evidence supporting the role of postbiotics in enhancing the well-being of pets“, said Peter Jüsten, global vice president of R&D Health & Wellness at ADM.
