An increasing number of pet owners view nutrition as the foundation of their pets' health. This is creating the conditions for a growing market in pet wellness products, as demand from pet owners rises. They consider their pets' nutrition to be just as important as their own. This is one of the key findings of ADM's recently published Global Pet Nutrition Insights Report 2025.

This is supported by figures such as the fact that 85 per cent of pet owners say proper nutrition and supplements are as important for pets as they are for humans. Furthermore, 78 per cent of pet owners want products that can increase their pet's life expectancy, and 77 per cent of US pet owners are willing to spend more on healthier pet food.

ADM explains that the two most important concerns for consumers when it comes to their pets are healthy ageing and general well-being, making science-based nutrition the cornerstone of animal health.

Popular topics include key ingredients. 95 per cent of pet owners want functional benefits such as health and immune support. Demand for recognisable, healthy ingredients is growing, personalisation is becoming indispensable and species-specific recipes are replacing one-size-fits-all solutions.

Despite being price sensitive, consumers will not compromise on pet health: they are looking for quality products, but are willing to pay less for private labels that offer the same benefits. According to the company, natural and minimally processed are declared advantages.
