Mars Inc. features 19th on the list of the “World’s Best Multinational Workplaces”, a global list of workplace quality rankings compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute. The rankings, which are announced at an awards ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange, recognise the 25 best multinationals to work for worldwide. The list is published in cooperation with Fortune.com and is based on all rankings of the best employers published between September 2010 and August 2011. To qualify for the global ranking, candidate firms must appear on at least five national Great Place to Work lists and have more than 5 000 employees. At least 40 per cent of their workforce must also be based outside the country in which the company has its headquarters. According to Mars, the reasons for its selection included the development and introduction of an employee participation programme, the appointment of an ombudsman at local sites and the high percentage of women in higher management positions, with 27 per cent in senior management. Back in the spring, Mars Germany received the award of Top Employer 2011 from the CRF Institute.
