Hornbach Group continues to grow

As of 31 August, the Hornbach Baumarkt business unit operated a total of 160 DIY and garden stores as well as online shops in nine European countries.

The Hornbach Group benefited from the increased inclination of people to stay at home due to the coronavirus pandemic during the summer months also. The temporary restrictions imposed on DIY retailers trading, which led in some cases to a significant decline in customer footfall in some regions and countries in the spring quarter, were largely lifted from the start of May onwards.

In the months of June to August, group sales rose more sharply than in the period from March to May, growing by 22.7 per cent as compared with 17.8 per cent. As a whole, group sales in the first half of the year (1 March to 31 August) increased by 20.2 per cent to 3 132.2 mio euros (previous year: 2 605.9 mio euros).

In the Hornbach Baumarkt business unit, which operated a total of 160 DIY and garden stores as of 31 August as well as online shops in nine European countries, net sales in the first half of the year increased by 20.6 per cent to 2 949 mio euros (previous year: 2 444.7 mio euros). Adjusted for retail area and currencies, the DIY and garden stores achieved sales growth of 19.4 per cent in the first six months of the year.

The net sales of the Hornbach home improvement stores and online shop in Germany increased by 24 per cent in the first six months of 2020/21 to 1 557 mio euros (previous year: 1 255.8 mio euros). Like-for-like sales increased in Germany by 24.3 per cent (previous year: 7.4 per cent).
