Fressnapf Austria opened its first XXL store on 14 April, converting the former Klagenfurt Fressnapf branch to the new format for this purpose. The store has a retail area of 1 400 m2 with a Fressnapf grooming salon above it. It runs on certified green power and the interior and exterior lighting have been converted to LED technology. In-store attractions include the aquarium zone with cold water technology, a new "meat corner" with a range of raw food and a service desk where shoppers can seek advice.
The fittings are a mix of Scandinavian design and "industrial look", intended to create a feelgood factor among the customers as well as encouraging them to explore and enabling pet enthusiasts to share experiences. Apart from store manager Cornelia Lister, the branch employs eleven staff.Over 1 500 new products were included in the opening range. A service area forms the central contact point in the store.
