Bogar was established 12 years ago as a laboratory for developing a range of preparations for animals. Three years later, its first licensed, plant-based medical care product for pets, "bogaskin", was unveiled. This dermatological skin care cream for dogs is still available in veterinary surgeries and pharmacies in Switzerland today. In view of the protracted process involved in the licensing of such a product, however, the company decided to concentrate more closely in the future on developing feeding supplements and care products for pets. The first three feeding supplements brought onto the Swiss market were "bogadapt", "bogamove" and "bogariat". The company draws on a network of scientists at leading universities in Switzerland, Germany and Austria to enable it to offer a steady stream of new, innovative and promising products. It also has an in-house research and development department working on studies for new products as well as implementing ongoing quality and sustainability checks. All the company's products are manufactured in Switzerland in accordance with the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) or HAACP standard.Plants play a key roleBogar supplies purely plant-based "spot-on" products and sprays for use on large and small dogs and cats to repel ticks, mites and fleas. The range of herbal care products includes three shampoos for dogs and cats, "Alchemilla" for cleaning ears and a regenerative ointment. The line of feeding supplements consists of the products "Bogadoc Move", "Boga-doc Sprint" and "Boga-doc Health". At the forth-coming Interzoo, the company will launch a flea repellent containing two active agents for large and small dogs and also cats, a preparation against mites and two new feeding supplements. Bogar also intends to manufacture products for small mam-mals and to launch further innovative parasite repellents onto the market. Its range of pharmaceuticals, feeding supplements and care products is available from leading vets, speciality pet shops and selected pharmacies.Distribution is currently being expanded in various countries. Bogar exports to Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Slovenia and Estonia. The German market alone accounts for around 70 per cent of sales, while the other countries and the domestic market in Switzerland respectively account for 15 per cent. Bogar is looking for distribution partners in other countries to continue its expansion strategy.Download: Plant-based pet care (PDF file)
