Established in Les Masies de Voltregá, the company started production of its first cages for birds in small rented premises. Five years later, in September 1997, it bought a 1 200 m² building in the village of St. Pere de Torello near Barcelona, a few kilometres away from Les Masies de Voltregá. Today the factory is still located in St. Pere de Torello, but the site has grown in size to 10 000 m² – a growth rate of 733 per cent. 34 people are currently employed by Voltregá, including office staff, technicians, managers, sales representatives and factory workers. Voltregá began exporting its products in 1996. Within two years the export business accounted for 46 per cent of overall sales. Since then, sales abroad have been increasing year by year. The most important export market is France, but the company also exports a considerable number of cages to different countries inside and outside Europe. With fair stands at the two international trade fairs Iberzoo (Zaragoza, Spain) and Interzoo (Nuremberg, Germany) the company always attracts huge interest from international visitors. Voltregá sells directly to pet shops in the Barcelona area, while in all other regions of Spain and abroad the company cooperates with wholesalers. The range comprises 188 different products in all: 50 bird cages, 10 aviaries, 29 cages and stands for parrots, 41 cages for hamsters, 25 for rabbits and guinea pigs, 12 for other rodents, 2 for turtles and 19 cage stands. The company's annual turnover is € 4.38 mio. 43 per cent of its customers are in Spain and 57 per cent abroad. Today the company produces around 372 000 cages per year (1 676 cages per day). The production line is divided into three sections, for wire, metal and plastic production. The finishing line is split into painting, packaging and quality control sections. Voltregá invests continuously in its manufacturing process to safeguard the quality of its products, and has installed a quality control system covering the entire production line for each product.
