"Two years ago Royal Canin ushered in a new era on the basis of close studies of certain dog breeds. Our studies have shown that there are significant differences between the various breeds that go beyond size," explains Alain Guillemin, the president of Royal Canin, in the foreword to the new, high-quality information brochures produced by the company to mark the launch of four new foods. Each 32-page brochure offers a compact yet comprehensive round-up of information on the respective breed, explains complex scientific processes in a manner that is easy to understand and makes it clear why it's important to take the specific needs of individual breeds into account when developing dog food. The brochures also constitute interesting reference material for the pet product trade.High-quality information brochures mark the launch of four new foods. The new foods are:• "Bulldog 24": The croquette is formulated to limit the risk of weight gain while providing highly digestible nutrients to make digestive transit easier. A complex of essential fatty acids, vitamin B, and amino acids helps the Bulldog's fragile, wrinkled skin remain in good health and reduces risk of inflammation. In addition, "Bulldog 24" kibble is perfectly adapted to the breed's strong, powerful jaw: its wavelike shape and thickness make it easy to pick up and stop it rolling around the dish. "Bulldog 24" controls the energy concentration, with fat content limited to 14 per cent. Via glucosamine and chondroitin, the new food also helps joints remain in good health. Due to the characteristic way the Bulldog breathes, its cells are particularly sensitive to free radicals: "Bulldog 24" contains a cocktail of anti-oxidants composed of vitamins E and C, lutein, grape and green tea polyphenols and taurine, which are particularly beneficial for the heart. The Bulldog is well known for its predisposition to intestinal fermentation. An unpleasant consequence of this is major gas production (flatulence). According to Royal Canin, the food must be very easily digestible: the proteins selected for "Bulldog 24" are of very high quality, to facilitate transit and limit fermentation. The indigestible protein content is 30 per cent lower than an ordinary food. These are combined with rice, the sole source of starch, chosen because it is the most digestible cereal, and with fibres - both fermentable, and non-fermentable.• "Dachshund 28": Due to its build, the Dachshund is inclined to corpulence, weakening its…
