Champion Petfoods is backing a new research facility for canine health with an investment of 1.135 million Canadian dollars. The Canine Performance Lab at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) is designed to help dogs stay fit into old age by improving the early detection and management of pain and mobility problems that commonly emerge with ageing or musculoskeletal disease.

Built on a partnership between UCVM and the Calgary Veterinary Wellness and Training Centre, the lab combines clinical care, research and advanced monitoring tools. Its focus areas include preventing and managing musculoskeletal conditions, particularly osteoarthritis, optimising rehabilitation and pain management, tackling obesity as a risk factor for mobility issues, and supporting dogs with behavioural problems.
