Dutch aquatics specialist Aquaja has announced that Tom Bootsma has become co-owner of the company, having acquired a 50 per cent stake in the business with effect from 1 May.
The move marks a significant strategic step for the Netherlands-based firm, which specialises in the design and realisation of retail concepts and aquatics solutions for the pet retail industry across Europe. According to the company, the decision reflects a clear commitment to an independent future and the continued professionalisation of the organisation.
Bootsma, who serves as director of Aquaja, first joined the company as an intern in 2011 and has risen steadily through the ranks, taking on the role of general manager in 2018 before his appointment to the board in 2023. Under the renewed partnership, he will take primary responsibility for internal organisation and operational processes, whilst founder and owner Danny Janssen will concentrate on external activities, including concept development and international growth.
‘Tom started at Aquaja as an intern in 2011 and has developed over the years into one of the key pillars of the company,’ said Janssen. ‘He has always remained loyal, even during more challenging periods, and through his dedication, knowledge and commitment, he has made a major contribution to the development and success of Aquaja as it stands today.’
The partnership creates a solid foundation for further growth and is fully aligned with Aquaja's long-term ambition to expand through its own strength within the international market, according to company information.
