Foodora, a European delivery service, has collected data on last-minute orders for pets. Most of these orders are for cats. Canned food and litter account for almost 60 per cent of sales, while dog products account for just 25 per cent.
Demand for pet products has risen in recent years, with orders doubling between 2023 and 2025, according to a press release on the latest survey by Foodora. This highlights the increasing popularity of last-minute pet shopping: Growth remains strong, with increases of 30 per cent between February 2024 and February 2025, and 25 per cent compared to total sales from 2023 to 2024. The proportion of pet products in shopping baskets also increased from 3 per cent in 2023 to 4.5 per cent in February 2025.
Overall, food accounts for over 85 per cent of Foodora's total sales, with canned food being the most popular product. Spray flea control products are the second best-selling product. Other popular items in the accessories category include dog waste bags. Other popular products include cat litter and hay for small animals such as rodents and rabbits. The absence of products for birds is notable.
