By the end of 2022, sales of dog and cat food by Canadian retailers will pass the 3.5-billion-dollar mark. This equates to an increase of nearly eight per cent compared with 2021. The information comes from the recent Canadian Pet Market Survey by the US market research company Packaged Facts. The rise is attributable not only to inflation but also to the continued demand for premium products, according to the company.

A representative bilingual survey conducted nationwide by Packaged Facts in September-October 2022 also shows that half of the owners of dogs, cats and other pets agreed with the statement that “my pets are the focal point of my life at home”.
