At the start of November, pet food manufacturer Nestlé Purina Petcare is launching a new pet food with alternative protein sources onto the market at Coop in Switzerland. The innovative brand, Purina Beyond Nature's Protein, is then expected to be introduced into other countries in the next year. The line comprises two dry food products, which contain insects and plant proteins from broad beans and millet as well as chicken and pig's liver.
Bernard Meunier, CEO of Nestlé Purina Petcare EMENA (Europe, Middle East and North Africa) states that this new food offers an alternative to conventional pet food with which the company intends to take account of the planet's resource scarcity. "We are constantly searching for options for sustainable production in the long term while at the same time being able to deliver the high-quality pet food that pets require today and tomorrow."
For the market launch of Beyond Nature's Protein, Nestlé Purina has agreed a partnership with the social company Reforest' Action. For every product sold, the company will plant a tree in Indonesia to promote reforestation in the Sumatra region.
