The long-standing wholesale company Vetpet is insolvent. In a telephone discussion with the editorial team at Pet worldwide, proprietor Marko Levstek confirmed the reports circulated by people in the industry. Levstek cited the unwillingness of Slovenian banks to support the restructuring of firms experiencing difficulties as the primary reason for Vetpet's failure. The entrepreneur expressed frustration, saying that it was easier for the banks to wind up insolvent companies than to provide long-term assistance to them. The Sinom company has taken over large portions of Vetpet's wholesale operations to enable deliveries to continue to Slovenian pet supplies retailers. The future of the Zootic pet stores owned by Vetpet is uncertain as yet. Some of the 22 stores in existence have already closed. Others have attracted interest from third parties, according to Marko Levstek. He is currently seeking strategic partners to be able to carry on operating the retail chain.
