The Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet, but we have all regained a bit of normality. It’s a new normal, marked by struggling supply chains, a shortage of raw materials and massive price hikes in all categories. And it’s a new normal with a useless and violent war in Ukraine, which is contributing significantly to all these problems presently faced by the pet industry.

In these uncertain times, it is becoming increasingly difficult for companies to plan for the future. Since everybody is currently grappling with roughly the same problems, it is particularly important that everybody talks to everyone else. One lesson learned from the pandemic is that it is only by working together that problems can be reduced or even solved. Although one might think that the contact restrictions imposed by the pandemic rather limited the mutual exchange of views, the opposite was the case. Extensive use was made of the tool of digital videoconferencing in particular, but also of social networks, to exchange ideas – and in the past two years, industry players have probably made more phone calls than ever before.

Only by working together can problemsbe reduced or even solved.

Interzoo, the world’s leading show for the pet industry staged in the German city of Nuremberg, offers many opportunities to exchange opinions. The renowned trade show is taking place again this year for the first time since 2018. Around 1 300 exhibitors are expected, not only from Europe, but from all continents, as is usual for a global show. Under the ongoing pandemic conditions, this is a very good result. It’s slightly disappointing that some well-known companies, especially from Germany, will be missing; but everything points nevertheless to Interzoo 2022 being an amazing event for the pet industry. It will be interesting to see if new market trends will be recognised at Interzoo. It will also be exciting to learn whether the new tendency towards greater sustainability will be reflected in all the new products presented at the show.

PET worldwide will also be present at Interzoo. Come to hall 1 and visit the Dähne Verlag stand 1-326! Have a coffee with us, talk to us about the current development of the pet industry, or find out about our ever-growing range of industry information. I am looking…
