“Arken Zoo has grown from 30 stores a year ago to 44 stores now. During this time, six stores have been removed from the concept because they did not fit in with it. “Arken Zoo will start its real expansion phase in August 2008, when all the systems and changes we have introduced since last year are in place,” states Lars Bergkvist, CEO of the Arken Group.
The major changes are:
All stores now have the same computer system, with links to/from the central office.
The central office keeps the database for the sales items updated and coordinated.
A common web-based sign system has been installed in all the stores, enabling Arken Zoo to harmonise the appearance of the stores.
The central office has grown from three to eight people. Among them are two store business advisors, who spend most of their time out in the stores.
Arken Zoo has negotiated with and chosen a total of seven suppliers, from whom an Arken Zoo range has been defined.
A totally new store concept has been developed and will be introduced in the three new stores opening on 1 April 2008 in Uppsala, Skellefteå and Ängelholm.
A new logo, more representative of the business Arken Zoo is in, has been developed. It will be launched on the market on 1 April 2008.
The emphasis with regard to new stores is on bigger stores. The average store size for the last ten stores is 600 m², compared with 250 m² before.
The aim for the Swedish market is to operate 100 stores by the end of 2010. Resources will thus be put in place to facilitate this level of market expansion.
