On 1 April, the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) launched its third annual 30-day sprint to inspire more than 50 000 people to take actions that will lead to a better future for pets, people and the planet. In doing so, PSC will encourage hundreds of pet industry professionals to take thousands of micro-actions that spread a common message of caring and corporate responsibility while making a tangible impact on carbon emissions.

The 2024 Earth Day Rally continues multi-stakeholder engagement with the support of non-profit partners American Pet Products Association (APPA), World Pet Association (WPA), North American Veterinary Community (NAVC), Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA), IndiePet, Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) and Pet Food Institute (PFI). In addition, Rally 2024 is supported by Defender sponsor Earth Animal.

The rally utilises an easy-to-use mobile app called CO2 Hero, which allows participants to perform simple, everyday actions and earn points while calculating the direct impact of their actions on their carbon emissions. Participants enter into a friendly competition within their own company and against other participating companies. At the end of the rally, everyone can see their own CO2 savings, those of their company and the impact of the rally as a whole.

APPA, WPA and NAVC are stepping up their support for the campaign through a matching gift campaign by donating one dollar for every action completed. The funds raised will go to the PSC's Impact Fund as unrestricted donations.

The 2023 PSC Earth Day Rally had nearly 600 participants from the pet industry who collectively completed more than 17 000 actions.
