"If you have taken a conscious decision to eat healthy, natural or even organic food on a daily basis, it is obvious that you will feed your pet the same type of food," says Jan-Jaap Roelevink, founder of the Dutch company Yarrah Organic Pet Food. It was with this thought in mind that he launched Nature's Finest, Europe's first pet food line produced on an organic basis, onto the market. The company is based in the Dutch town of Harderwijk and its products are manufactured in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Ingredients for the products are sourced by the manufacturer from farmers and cattle owners, who share Yarrah's philosophy with regard to sustainability and animal welfare.

Naturally organic

Yarrah's aim is to offer dogs and cats only the very best and so it uses only tested organic ingredients and no colourings, seasonings or preservatives, according to the company. Only vitamin E and rosemary extract are used to preserve the dry food, while the moist food is sterilised at precise temperatures. Perfectly formulated recipes, high-grade organic raw materials, a high meat content of up to 57 per cent and natural ingredients such as spirulina and marine algae are intended to set Yarrah apart from the competition.

Organic pet food

The company uses the best organic ingredients to create its dog food. Since no chemical or artificial additives are included, all recipes call for a very high fresh meat content. The dry dog food recipes contain 23 per cent chicken, tinned food features between 37 and 52 per cent fresh meat, the aluminium cups contain between 39 and 57 per cent and dog treats are composed of 93 per cent meat. Poultry, beef and fish form the basis for the Nature's Finest pet food range. It is important, therefore, to treat these animals with dignity and respect. Organic farming guarantees that livestock are kept in an environment that minimises stress and provides space for movement and natural growth. This means that poultry, cattle and fish are given organic feed that is free from genetically modified organisms.
Eating naturally
Yarrah Organic Petfood recently announced the introduction of the Organic Grain-Free line of dry food for dogs and cats. The company regularly develops new, high-quality organic recipes to meet new customer requirements and increase sales. A major trend is grain-free food, as more and more consumers are critical of wheat and maize in pet food, even though these are high-quality sources of protein. The new Yarrah…
