At its Großzöberitz-Heideloh depot close to Leipzig, Arvato has been storing, picking and packing goods from the range of 12 000 products sold by the Krefeld-based pet store chain since 2015. More than two million parcels per year are now delivered from the warehouse to end customers and Fressnapf stores in Germany and abroad. This is a growing trend, according to Arvato, as the coronavirus crisis has significantly boosted online retailing. The contract between Arvato and Fressnapf covering future collaboration has been extended until 2025.
The logistics provider believes it is well prepared for a higher volume of deliveries both in terms of technology and infrastructure. Last autumn, Arvato expanded its facilities in Heideloh from 24 000 m2 to 36 000 m2. Delivery to end customers is now undertaken not only in Germany and Luxembourg, as it was when the collaboration commenced, but now also to Austria and Poland.
Other European countries are expected to be added to the list in the short and medium term. Apart from shipping, Arvato's service portfolio also includes handling returned goods and the storage and delivery of hazardous materials across Europe. As well as delivery to customers, the Heideloh warehouse also supplies Fressnapf/Maxi Zoo stores in Germany, Luxembourg, Poland, Austria, France, Belgium, Italy and Switzerland. Hungary will be the next country to be included in the network of store deliveries.
Arvato Supply Chain Solutions in Heideloh currently employs around 400 people. Since commencing its collaboration with Fressnapf five years ago, the logistics company has quadrupled the number of female employees working at this location.
