Retailers fail to show in sufficient numbers

Respectable showing for Interzoo.digital

08.06.2021

Recognition of the considerable efforts put in by the Interzoo organiser WZF, but also the realisation that a digital pet supplies show is (presently) not sufficiently capable of establishing proper contacts between the industry and retailers: these were the points that emerged from the initial comments of exhibitors at Interzoo.digital.
The digital trade show lasted four days, and with 336 exhibitors from 48 countries, the interest from industry was far higher than would have been expected a few weeks ago. Apart from a few technical transmission problems, the show ran pretty smoothly. Built up in just a short period of time, the platform offered plenty of interesting information. It also provided networking opportunities that were used enthusiastically by some visitors.
Of the 14 537 participants from over 100 countries, 9 513 were visitors, according to the WZF. 30 per cent of these were from Germany. 130 000 chat messages and 2 300 video calls showed that there was no lack of networking activity.
Despite this, most industrial companies agreed that this year's digital event was no adequate substitute for a fair involving physical presence. The number of retailers participating was too small to claim that the digital show was really successful.
Nevertheless, only a few exhibitors expressed disappointment. This was due to expectations not having been particularly high in advance, but also on account of the opportunity the show presented to gather further experience in the digital sphere.
In this regard, the first Interzoo.digital was moving in the right direction and the work of the organiser was thus by no means in vain, because a platform was finally available to the sector at which it could present its goods and services, even from afar.
The portal can be accessed up to the end of June. Most players in the sector will doubtless be pleased, however, if the physical Interzoo fair takes place in Nuremberg once more from 24 to 27 May 2022 - always with the reservation that the pandemic will permit this to happen.
