The results of the new Interzoo sustainability study together with areas for action and examples of sustainable development in the pet sector will be presented on the first day of Interzoo.digital on 1 June. Jan Beyne (AMS) will reveal these during the sustainability session.
They will also be presented in a handbook on the topic of sustainability produced as an initiative of the Interzoo Academy and WZF in collaboration with the Sustainable Transformation Lab of Antwerp Management School. The project was led by Prof. Dr Wayne Visser and Jan Beyne.
The aim of the handbook is to support players in the sector in the development and updating of their sustainability plans. To do this, the study picks up on selected Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the pet sector as an aid to orientation for companies.
The WZF commissioned an initial survey of sustainability activities in the pet sector under the auspices of Interzoo back in 2018. At that time, 80 per cent of companies believed that sustainability aspects would become very important or extremely important to the pet sector and to their company in the following three years. 56 per cent of companies thought that they had made significant progress with regard to sustainability. Only 36 per cent of companies felt that significant progress had been made within the pet sector generally.
