Market research company Packaged Facts has published up-to-date figures for the pet product market in the USA in its "U.S. Pet Market Focus". It is assumed here that retail sales of food for dogs and cats will come to 37.1 bn dollars (approx. 33.08 bn euros) this year, equivalent to an increase of 6.4 per cent compared with 2020. For 2025, sales rising to as much as 47.9 bn dollars (approx. 42.7 bn euros) are forecast, equal to an annual growth rate of 6.6 per cent.
The study also states that super-premium products above all will become the top-selling products, with natural recipes and scientifically researched products particularly in demand. The advance of bones and raw food products and products offering alternative sources of protein is also striking, according to the study.
Furthermore, e-commerce trends are important. The entire pet food market is also bolstered primarily by globally operating companies such as Nestlé Purina, Mars, General Mills (Blue Buffalo) and Colgate-Palmolive (Hill's).
