A number of online and print media as well as Internet portals are currently reporting that the recall of Multifit canine treats and Real Nature Wilderness Adult Best Horse products has been extended. Fressnapf published customer information regarding this on 26 July, which was added to on 29 July.
According to the information, a supplier elsewhere in the EU has confirmed that a problem with a slicing machine in production is suspected to have been the source of the salmonella outbreak. The entire production facility has been inspected and cleaned. "The supplier may only supply products to the Fressnapf Group again once they have been shown to be free of contamination in testing," the retailer stresses in its customer information. Extensive sampling of warehouse stocks of the products concerned has also taken place. These are only released for sale once they have been shown to be free of possible contaminants.
The affected items now include the entire stock of MultiFit canine treats: lamb lungs, veal throat, bovine scalp sticks, bovine scalp and the Soft Snack Horse from the Real Nature Wilderness line. "The entire stock of products is being recalled as a preventive consumer protection measure," the Fressnapf customer information states.
While microbial contamination with salmonella is being blamed for the treat recall, the Real Nature Wilderness Adult Best Horse sausages are being recalled due to a raised cadmium content.
