28.05.2020

Who will be the winner of the Purina BetterwithPets Award 2020? The answer will be revealed online on 3 June between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
Following the pitches and a Q&A session, Bernard Meunier, CEO of Nestlé Purina Petcare EMENA, will announce the winners and their awards. Purina employees also have the opportunity to nominate their favourites in the idea phase for an additional prize of 2 000 CHF. More than 150 applications from social initiatives focused on improving the coexistence of pets and the people they love were received from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Participants were able to apply for two categories, innovations in the ideas phase and fully implemented innovations. Eight finalists for the award were nominated in a rigorous selection process: Homely Home (Russia), Pet me (Saudi Arabia) and SoliVet (France) in the ideas phase category, and Courthouse Dog Research (Spain), Evi'dence (France), Gamelles Pleines (France), Reading Dogs (United Arab Emirates) and StreetVet Accredited Hostel Scheme (Great Britain). "Throughout the selection procedure for the BetterwithPets Award we have been inspired by these extraordinary initiatives," said Hubert Wieser, Regional Director Central Region at Nestlé Purina Petcare Germany. "Our eight finalists have best demonstrated how the bond between pets and people can be utilised most effectively and can lead to positive changes in society that benefit all of us." The awards of up to 100 000 CHF (approx. 94 000 euros) for implemented innovations and up to 20 000 CHF (approx. 18 800 euros) for innovations in the ideas phase are intended to support and accelerate the most positive concepts that utilise the mutual, positive force of the pet-human bond to achieve a sustainable contribution to society. This is the second time that the prize has been awarded, having been claimed two years ago by the OOPOEH Foundation from the Netherlands. The competition has been organised once again this year in collaboration with Ashoka, a pioneer in the field of social entrepreneurship.
