Petland was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in south central Ohio.

Entrepreneur has released its rankings of the top global franchisees, rating Petland #20, up from #32 last year and #190 in 2016. Earlier this year, Petland ranked 209 overall in the Entrepreneur magazine's 38th Annual Franchise 500, a ranking of North American franchises.

The company states that the international growth at Petland has been at a record high, with Petland Brazil opening its 64th location this month and Petland Mexico opening its 7th and 8th this year.
