Tetra GmbH has closed its transport and logistics centre in Melle and has relocated it to the production plant in Coevorden in the Netherlands, according to the online edition of the Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper. It is reported that this move stems from the desire of retail customers to receive deliveries only from one location. Hitherto the dog and cat food produced in Coevorden in the Netherlands was transported to the Melle logistics centre, unloaded and then reloaded together with smaller, more lightweight aquatics products. In view of the growing volume of business, this no longer makes sense, especially since the Melle warehouse has become too small. This was the explanation given in the report by Bernd Weisser, Tetra's general manager, Pet Central & South East Europe. Coevorden will thus be the central warehouse in future. The restructuring was to be organised with the minimum impact on jobs, and so the 60 or so workers affected have been offered employment in other areas and sites operated by the company.
