In Funchal on the Atlantic island of Madeira (Portugal), the pet shop chain Petlandia/Petoutlet took over the Spadlandia site on 11 July and integrated it into its own pet shop chain.
The site is part of an animal welfare facility of Spad, the oldest animal welfare association in Portugal. Currently, around 200 dogs and cats are cared for there, waiting to be placed with new owners. A part of the sales revenues in the 110 m² Petoutlet Spad in the east of the city directly benefits the animal welfare organisation. In addition, the owners of referred animals receive a special discount on their first purchase at the Petoutlet Spad.
Petlandia currently operates 43 outlets throughout Portugal. The next new opening in Porto has been announced for September, with around 1 200 m² of sales space.
