Digital pet care sales reach 27 bn dollars

29.09.2020

Digital pet care was in the ascendancy long before the coronavirus pandemic. In its recently published study, "Digital Pet Care Products and Services: E-Commerce und E-Connectivity", the market research company Packaged Facts reports that e-commerce made huge advances between 2015 and 2019. It states that this will grow to account for 35 per cent of pet product purchases by 2024. This forecast growth would make the Internet the most important channel for the pet supplies market in the next few years, states Packaged Facts.
Overall Packaged Facts expects sales of digital pet products and services to attain over 27 bn dollars in 2020, with e-commerce sales of pet products accounting for the lion's share of this.
Regarding the sale of app-based pet care services up to 2021, however, Packaged Facts does not envisage quite such a rosy future. It attributes this to the continuing stay-at-home and social distancing measures along with the collapse in the travel business. These have had a negative effect on home care services for pets.
