Consolidated sales at the internationally operating Hornbach Group rose by 20.3 per cent to 1.371 bn euros in the third quarter of 2020/21 (September 1 to November 30). The decline in sales due to stores closed to the general public in Austria and the Czech Republic in October and November was more than offset thanks to growth in other regions as well as to pull-forward and catch-up effects.
In the first nine months of the current financial year, sales at the Hornbach Group rose by 20.2 per cent to 4.503 bn euros (previous year: 3.745 bn euros). Net sales at the largest operating sub-group, Hornbach Baumarkt, rose by 20.7 per cent to 4.224 bn euros in the first nine months (previous year: 3.499 bn euros). Adjusted for sales area and currency items, the DIY stores with garden centres generated sales growth of 19.5 per cent (previous year: plus 7.1 per cent).
Net sales at Hornbach's DIY stores and online shop in Germany rose by 24.5 per cent to 2.219 bn euros in the first nine months of 2020/21 (previous year: 1.782 bn euros). Like-for-like sales in Germany increased by 24.6 per cent (previous year: 6.2 per cent). In the eight countries outside Germany, net sales rose by 16.7 per cent to around 2.005 bn euros (previous year: 1.717 bn euros). The international share of sales at the Hornbach Baumarkt sub-group thus amounted to 47.5 per cent (previous year: 49.1 per cent). Adjusted for sales area and currency items, sales in the rest of Europe grew by 14.3 per cent (previous year: 8.1 per cent). The online business also gained momentum as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and grew by around two-thirds across the group in the first nine months.
